Scribe Fellowship Announced

Thank you to the editorial team at Scribe Publications for selecting the writers that will participate in this year’s Scribe & Varuna Fellowship. Combining a Varuna residency with an intensive mentorship with Scribe editors, the 2022 program has a focus on literary fiction.

“We’ve had an amazing response to our call for literary fiction, and we would like to thank everyone who submitted a piece of writing, giving us a rich field to choose from. The three chosen authors each have strong, unique voices, creating fully realised characters through vivid language while offering dynamic new perspectives on our present moment.”

“It’s exciting to see where these characters and these stories will go, and we look forward to working with the authors to develop their manuscripts at Varuna,” said David Golding, Scribe Senior Editor.

Congratulations to the 2022 fellowship recipients:

Sam Elkin, Shapeshifting

Jacqueline Wright, Beauty and Menace

Nevo Zisin, What We Start With

Varuna received almost 200 manuscripts from writers across Australia for the 2022 Scribe & Varuna Residency. The manuscripts were each double-read in the first selection process by our assessors George Haddad and Mirandi Riwoe, and a shortlist as well as the complete set of applications with manuscripts were sent to the editorial team at Scribe Publications for their final selection.

We really appreciate the efforts of all the writers who submitted their manuscripts for the fellowship, and we regret that unfortunately, we don’t have the resources to provide individual feedback to all applicants. Keep writing!

We look forward to seeing Sam, Jacqueline and Nevo at Varuna later this year.
