Create NSW Funding
The Eleanor Dark Foundation is delighted to announce that its application for multi-year funding from Create NSW has been successful, guaranteeing $240,000 in annual funding from 2026 through to 2028.
“Literature is foundational to a nation’s culture and identity” said Bianca Nogrady, Chair of the Eleanor Dark Foundation. “More than any other artform, it is writers who interpret the complexity of the world in which we live, and help deepen our understanding of humanity. This increased level of funding from Create NSW acknowledges both the importance of the work our organisation does, as well as the importance of literature itself.”
The funding also supports the staffing necessary for the organisation’s year-round residency program, which welcomes over 200 writers per year to Varuna the National Writers’ House. “To be awarded a residential fellowship at Varuna represents a milestone in a writer’s career” said Veechi Stuart, Executive Director. “The precious gift of time and space to write, as well as the opportunity to collaborate with other writers, cannot be underestimated.”
“To know that future of the Blue Mountains Writers’ Festival is secured for at least another four years is an incredible relief” adds Maeve Marsden, Creative Director. “The Festival has grown to become one of the landmark events in Australia’s literary calendar, showcasing many of our best writers and thinkers, and we’re grateful that Create NSW has recognised the significant contribution our Festival makes.”
This increased funding from Create NSW will also enable the expansion of Varuna’s online masterclass program, which provides a level of professional development and peer-to-peer connections not found anywhere else in Australia.
