ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
What a character pays attention to, is attached to, or neglects can help a writer show the reader who the character really is.
In this workshop with Dr Eleanor Limprecht, learn the difference between objects, artefacts and talismans, and explore examples from fiction and non-fiction that allow you to better understand these concepts.
Discover how objects carry emotional weight in a story, and explore how to write about objects in a way that adds rich, meaningful texture without drowning the reader in distracting detail.

Dr Eleanor Limprecht is the author of five novels, most recently Cul-de-Sac, which is published by Ultimo Press. Her short fiction, journalism and essays have been published various places including Best Australian Stories, Meanjin, the Saturday Paper, the Griffith Review, Kill Your Darlings and The Big Issue. Her novels have been shortlisted for the ALS Gold Medal, longlisted for the Voss Literary Prize and awarded the ASA Blake-Beckett Trust Scholarship. Eleanor has a Doctorate in Creative Writing from UTS and teaches creative writing workshops. She is a 2025/2026 Visiting Fellow at the State Library of NSW.
